Q1. What did you want to be growing up?
I wanted to be an attorney growing up. I did go to college with the intentions to become an attorney and was originally a History major, but my father said Honey you cant make money with History, so go into education as backup. So that’s what I did and Right out of college I was fortunate enough to get a job as a HS History Teacher and I loved it!!!
Q2. Tell us all about you and the story of how you have gotten to this point in your life?
I don’t think I have short version, so here we go. I have always been a creative person. As a child I like to make beautiful things and sew. I was brought up with parents who both loved quality fashion. I was always taught to feel the clothes, not buy because it was the newest and most wanted item. So I always had this in me. Looking elegant and classic was a must in my household. It was not about trends at all. So I guess this is something that was subconsciously passed down to me. I always loved wearing good quality clothing and being around beautiful accessories, Home Accessories. After, working as a History teacher, I opened up a Boutique Home Accessory store. It was called Romanza. Everything about it was Romantic, Vintage and just dreamy. I designed and built my house and so many people complimented me that I decided to open a store, as a young mother of 2 at the time, and my youngest was literally a newborn. I had a successful store; it had Shabby Chic linens, Vintage Inspired Chandeliers, furniture. You name it. However, I then had my third child and I was feeling guilty to run and store and be a Mom. I decided that no one at the time could run my store the way I did so I closed it. I have no regrets, because in a blink of an eye, my kids grew up. This is definitely hard for so many of us women. Running a business and a family. However, my creative juices didn’t go away. Once my children became a older I decided to take some enrichment classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology and what led to one class led me to get a Certificate in Fashion Styling. It took me took me 2 years, but I did it. I then, did several internships worked for FREE 10/12-hour days to come home to my family, but I still did it. I wanted to gain experience and I wont lie it wasn’t easy. Especially since everyone in the Fashion world I was working with was so much younger. I finally decided I wanted to focus working with personal clients and I have been able to marry the two. I love the world of fashion shoots and working with clients one on one. I am also a fashion contributor and have been seen in InStyle Magazine, Elle, the Huffington Post, Chicago Tribune and so many more. I also have work as an On- Air fashion and style expert.
Behind the scenes is far from glamorous but I have to say I do enjoy what I do and if you enjoy what you’re doing, it shows and pays off.
Q3. What do you think are the three biggest mistakes women make when it comes to achieving their goals?
- The first thing, I think women understate themselves that alone is a huge mistake.
- The second is taking the risks
- Third: They listen to others. So easy to get caught up in what other people think.
Q4. What is one of your most treasured accomplishments?
My most treasured accomplishment is my four children. Nothing in the world can top that.
Q5. Tell how you process work load stress or personal stress or just to much coming at you at one time? Ex: Exercise, Meditation, Journal or all the above.
▪️What is your Personal Process?
I like to listen to music that gets me into a ZEN type of feeling. It helps me focus and not have my mind wandering all over the place. I don’t have ADHD, but sometimes with everything that comes my way as a mother, the CEO of my household and business can sometimes be daunting. I also play paddle tennis and regular tennis. Playing these two sports also keep me focused and in alignment.
Q6. Do you have any beauty secrets?
- Moisturize Moisturize, Moisturize!!!!!
- Wear Sunscreen , and Wear a Hat!!!!!
- I honestly believe this is a key thing many young women don’t do at an early age and then when they think to do it, a lot of damage has already been done.
Q7. Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming successful, you are killing it?
Hard Work and putting in the time.
Success doesn’t happen overnight, unless well you were born into a prominent family and maybe then. In all honesty, to become successful you need to be driven, focused and have restraint to be dedicated.
Q8. If you could speak to one woman from history, who would it be?
I probably would have loved to have spoken to Cleopatra.
The fact that she was so well respected , feared yet loved at the same time. Her beauty and importance to be feminine. I wonder what it was like then and how she managed to be still one of the most prominent females in history today. I would have also wished I was able to ask my paternal grandmother she is from History because she lived thru it. She was born in 1898. I was about 11 years old when she passed. But OMG I remember all the amazing stories she told me . If you think about it, she got to live during some amazing Historical eras. She was part of the Victorian era which I LOVE, WW1, then the age of the Roaring 20’s ( she was a young woman ) the Depression, WW2, I can go on and on. As a History buff, I wish I could ask her all these amazing questions from those eras.
Q9. Any future collaborations you want to share?
At this very moment I do not have any future collaborations however, I did pivot during the quarantine to design Sun Hats, so I am in the process of trying to get my hats into stores and into the hands of more women
