MY INTERVIEW WITH MICHELLE EMMICK
Q1. What did you want to be growing up?I’m from the early MTV generation. I was obsessed with music and dancing. I grew up watching everything from Dance Party USA to Soul Train. I knew every lyric and dance move to every song/video from the 80’s & 90’s so I would definitely say I wanted to be in the music/entertainment industry.
Q2. Tell us all about you and the story of how you have gotten to this point in your life?
I grew up with a father who was a coach, so I always say I was indoctrinated with an optimistic mindset! I started playing sports at the age of seven all the way up through the collegiate level. I have amazing parents and had a great home life surrounded with a lot of love. When I think of what’s gotten me to where I am I would say that is the foundation. The rest came from putting in the work and doing what I had a passion for.
After years working in different leadership roles in the aesthetic industry, I started my own company MyCoachMD, so I could share my subject matter expertise with others, work with people I like, who I could help and of course be my own boss.
From working for twenty years in industry, I felt there was a major disconnect in the messaging. Most people I meet with are not walking around looking like a photoshopped supermodel. Yet that was, and often still is the image being pushed. For years I have listened to stories, and I knew for certain that people want to look and feel their best, it’s that simple. They also often feel intimated which leads to lack of questioning and proper education. I wanted to change that. In 2019 I wrote my first book that became an amazon best seller, “Blue-Collar Beauty, Confessions of a Plastic Surgery Coach”. I wrote the book to share my story, educate and inspire, with a takeaway that happiness starts from within. That same message is what has championed the larger platform that we launched in August 2021, Ask Us Beauty Magazine. Along with my two business partners, Ask Us Beauty is about education and empowerment. We are challenging the mainstream and working to elevate and explore all things beauty and wellness. Our mission is for everyone to define beauty on their own terms.
Q3. What is one of your most treasured accomplishments?
Of course, I would have to list my number one as being a mom. Separate from that, would be personal integrity. I’ve seen and done a lot in my years and I’m proud that I can hold my head high with decisions I’ve made and the paths I’ve chosen. All the accolades, awards, titles, money, doesn’t mean much if you aren’t happy and aren’t true to yourself. I have both and that is a treasured accomplishment.
Q4. Tell how you process workload stress or personal stress or just too much coming at you at one time? Ex: Exercise, Meditation, Journal or all the above.
For me, I often have to stop and pause. I am 100 percent; Type A personality and I love to work. I have a Peloton so that makes its way on my morning schedule. I write nonstop for the magazine, so video journaling is something I started which is so cathartic. It is a great reminder to get those feelings out and helps with perspective. I also figure, it may make for a great behind the scenes documentary someday-Kanye is releasing his soon on Netflix, right? LOL
What is your Personal Process?
I am a daily list maker and short/long term goal setter.
Q5. What advice would you give to someone looking to have a cosmetic procedure done so they can have a great patient experience?
Do your research! It breaks my heart when I see people have a less than great experience because they got caught up in emotion instead of logic.
Q6. Do you have any beauty secrets that you swear by?
I will probably say the same as everyone in the industry…sunscreen!
Q7. What is MyCoachMD?
MyCoachMD educates and supports consumers interested in having a cosmetic procedure. Cosmetic Surgery is like the wild wild west. Our goal is to set the patient up for success and provide answers to all their initial questions so that they are confident in taking the next step. We are not doctors, nor we do give medical advice. We do provide basic education and refer potential patients to doctors in their area if they are interested. We do not get paid by the doctors; we are hired by the consumer as their coach.
Q8. Any future collaborations you want to share as the Editor and Chief of Ask Us Beauty?
We are excited to have a group of amazing team collaborators for 2022! I have had the pleasure of interviewing so many incredible women and I want them all to stay! I’ve always made friends easily and relationships for me go far past a onetime conversation. Actress Josie Bissett who was on the cover of our inaugural issue has become a friend and immediately following, joined as a collaborator, The same with featured interviewees, actresses Arianne Zucker and Ali Landry, who both joined on for the year to share their stories around beauty/wellness. All our collaborators which are comprised of doctors, writers, industry experts, are fantastic and are extremely down to earth and authentic which is what our magazine is all about.
Q9. Favorite quote? So first, I love quotes! If I have to choose a favorite and just one, I love the quote by Charles Spurgeon
“Carve your name on hearts and not on marble.”
Q10. I want to have a little fun and get to know ya a little more👇🏽
