MY INTERVIEW WITH JESSIE CHERIE

Q1.   What did you want to be growing up?

Growing up, I had a real passion to be a performing artist. I didn’t care if it was singing, rapping, writing, dance, acting or illustration/design. That was my true passion. I dedicated most of my time when I attended school to music, drama and dance. In high-school I even took courses in cinematography, dance, music and acting as well.

Q2. Tell us about you:

Well I was born very prematurely on Christmas day of 1986. Due to complications I endured in ICU as a newborn, I lost a lot of my hearing. Being hearing impaired, I did overcome a lot of the difficulties in my life that come with it. I had struggled with my speech, but was fortunate to receive speech therapy within my public school system.  I learned to read lips as well as body language as a form of communication when I couldn’t hear and understand everyone. Despite the struggles I fast with hearing loss, I used it the best of capacity.  I thank God everyday for the woman I am today and I never allowed any of that to break me. especially because of all the bullying I experienced along the way.  I’m proud that I can speak both English and Spanish (bilingual) and have taught myself a little French. I am currently working on learning more Italian so I can be fluent in more languages. I don’t want to limit any of my communication skills no matter my struggle with hearing. Music has helped me find and express myself also. That’s why I love the arts so much because it has assisted me to communicate in a many different ways.

Q3. What is one of your most treasured accomplishments?

This may sound cheesy but, my greatest accomplishment is being a mother to my amazing son. He has been my saving grace and has been that push I needed in my life to continue to do what I do. I don’t give up because of my son. I want to be an example for him to see that no matter what you face in life it’s your choice on what you do with it going forward.

Q4.  Tell how you process work load stress or personal stress or just to much coming at you at one time?

When it comes to processing stress and mental health the is definitely several I tent to do, but it’s not a perfect practice that I have daily. I continue to try and work on that daily. My therapy is an array of music and art. It allows me to release unwanted energy and exert a more positive way to express whatever I’m feeling at that moment.

From time to time, I take baths in Epsom Salt and Essential Oils to help with body aches and stress.

Since I do love food, cooking has also been a positive outlet for me to release stress. I use that as a time for myself to enjoy and get creative.

Physical Fitness is important to me and since I am a dance that is a way to decompress. I ride my bike, walk and enjoy the outdoors where I can soak in the sun, breath the fresh air and enjoy nature.  It is a must to get out of my home and move.

Q5. What is one thing you could advise someone to do if they wanted to start a podcast?

My advice to anyone that wants to show up on social media and other platforms is speak your voice and be authentically you. Meaning express what your message is to the fullest and show up that way on every platform.

Also Ask yourself, “Is my message going to be constructive or destructive”?

Unfortunately there’s a lot of misinformation and negativity online.

It’s important for me to spread positivity everywhere I go and especially on my online platforms.  So when you are building your community online, make it a point to be someone that’s going to make a positive influence, be helpful and a voice that speaks truth.

Q6.  If you could change one thing in this world, what would it be?

It’s impossible to choose just one thing because around the world many are facing challenges beyond our understanding.

I’m my opinion, there are so many things that need to change in and around us.  We need to start by educating ourselves because perfection does not exist. There are Men, Women and even Children all around the world facing injustices.  We could also be humble and take action ourselves to be more positive and constructive in making changes. How we view ourselves, how we view each other is a reflection of how we will treat each other.

Q7. If you could speak to one woman from history, who would it be?

Queen Elizabeth, she was known as the Virgin Queen.

Her story is so inspiring for me and many women that have faced heartbreak, disloyalty, dishonesty and discouraging situations. Women around the world have used that downfall to build themselves up, be something greater and becoming more Independence.
