MY INTERVIEW WITH CAROL PRENDERGAST

Q1.   What did you want to be growing up?

I loved my second grade teacher, Mrs. Newmeyer, and wanted to be a second grade teacher just like her. I would never have the patience for that now though.

My father was a physician and I wish he’d steered me in that direction because I’m fascinated with anything medical.

Q2. Tell us all about how you have gotten to this point in your life? 

I am a graphic designer but have always been interested in new products, great travel spots, etc. Quickklist has given me the opportunity to blend those passions. 

WSJ had a feature every Saturday called, “20 Odd Things” and that was my inspiration. I learned so many new things because of that column.

Q3.  What do you think are the three biggest mistakes women make when it comes to achieving their goals?

1. Always thinking someone else could do it better
2. Worrying about what others think of you
3. Not believing in yourself and having the confidence to start a business you believe in.

Q4.  What is one of your most treasured accomplishments? 

Becoming an accomplished graphic designer when my initial teachers told me I should choose a different field. It didn’t come naturally to me but I studied a lot on the side and succeeded. I’m also very proud that Quickklist is a high-quality resource for many, and I get the nicest messages that make my day.

Q5.  What is your favorite quote?

Happiness is someone to love, something to do, and something to look forward to.

Q6.  Tell us a little about one thing that lights you up inside?

I get such a feeling of accomplishment if someone I admire says they will be on Quickklist. I’ll never forget the feeling of starting out and getting some I never dreamed would even answer my DM, much less be featured on my feed. But #1 of course, are my two daughters who are my absolute pride and joy.

Q7. Do you have a secret to your amazing Instagram Platform that has just sky rocketed (Quickklist)?

I try to be very sincere and show the best side of everyone’s success. I make sure all of the info is accurate, double checking brands, spelling, etc.

I put much time/research into writing each comment about the featured person/product and the comments I receive make me feel it’s worth it.

Q8.  Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming successful?  To what do you most attribute your success? 

To always being sincere, working hard and believing in yourself. Of course a great idea (and good cash flow) is probably the most important.

Q9.  As a Beautiful woman wearing many hats, how do you handle workload stress?

When I get over-stressed, I try to compartmentalize my tasks and focus on other things. I cut everything on my schedule way back.

Q10.  If you could talk to one woman from history, who would it be and why? 

I would love to meet Queen Elizabeth. I have gained such an admiration of her from watching The Crown, how she has sacrificed so much to keep alive the traditions of the monarch. It seems like such a hard lonely life but she accepts the responsibility with honor.

Q11.  Please share with our tribe of Women, one piece of advice you have received which has helped you throughout your journey & continues to help you?

I get a lot of inspiration from fellow Instagrammers. Many of them struggled & had slow starts but believed in themselves and kept going to success.

Q12.  Since you asked me for some of my favorite in my feature on your Instagram, I want to ask you a few if your favs:

• Favorite Designer: I love Shoshanna dresses
• Favorite Beauty Secret: I don’t think there’s anything like Chanel Vitalumiere foundation to make your skin look smooth and beautiful
• Favorite Business Hack: Reaching people via DMs on Instagram who I would never be able to otherwise.
• Do you like reading books or watching movies? Both – If books, what are you reading: Loving Colleen Hoover books
• If movies, what is your fav: So many, but “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” is right up there.
