MY INTERVIEW WITH JENNIFER HURVITZ
Q1. What did you want to be growing up?
Easy! A dancer. I danced my entire life, and it’s all I ever wanted to do; be on a stage in front of thousands of applauding people, which led me to my first career- an EmCee! I was a DJ for Bar Mitzvahs, corporate events, and weddings. Think Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer. LOL. I loved every second of being on a microphone leading a party, controlling the music, the guests, and the FUN! Totally up my alley, and I miss it every single day.
Q2. Tell us all about you?
Jennifer is known for her no-nonsense approach to all things relationships and is proud to say she’s made quite the career out of pretty disastrous circumstances…her divorce. She’s a Relationship Expert, Dating Coach, best-selling author, and host of the award-winning Doing Relationships Right Podcast. Divorced since 2014, Jennifer lives in Charlotte with her two incredible, college-bound sons.
Through her books and weekly podcast, Jennifer helps people understand what a happy relationship can look like and how to dip their toes back into the dating world post-divorce. Jen has been featured on OprahMagazine.com where her book, “Woulda.Coulda.Shoulda: A Divorce Coach’s Guide to Staying Married” was chosen as one of the BEST books to read with your partner for a healthy relationship! Find Jennifer speaking all over the country and look for her name in publications like Forbes, Scary Mommy & BluntMoms.
Q3. What is one of your most treasured accomplishments?
I’d have to say my most treasured accomplishment, besides raising two of the most unbelievable 20-something-boys, has to be writing my award-winning screenplay. Having no formal screenwriting training, learning it all on my own was a huge achievement. And my TV Pilot has won numerous awards at Film Festivals all over the country! It’s taken a lot of inner-work to say this, but I’m proud of myself! Fingers crossed that one day we will see my work on a screen.
Q4. Tell how you process workload stress or personal stress or just too much coming at you at one time?
I happen to work so much better under high-pressure situations, believe it or not, so stress is my “friend,” so to speak. Ha. Sure, I wish I could say I do yoga every day or journal, but I like to power through and get it done! I think it’s just my personality? But, wait. I love to binge a mind-numbing show on Netflix, does that count as a stress reliever? What if I add in a bowl of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Cereal? LOL. I can feel my heart rate lowering now!
Q5. What’s your beauty secret?
My beauty secret is lots and lots of CONFIDENCE! I’ve learned over the years that all the botox, make-up, and exercise won’t mean a damn thing if you don’t feel good on the inside. Self-work, self-care, and SELF-LOVE are my beauty secrets.
Q6. What is your definition of being successful? You are killing it?
Success is different for everyone, but as long as I have a roof over my head, food on the table, and my boys are healthy and happy- I’m killing it. As far as my personal goals? I’d like to know that I’m leaving a mark on the planet and making my children proud.
Q8. Favorites:
Favorite book: Anything by Jodi Picoult
Favorite travel destination: Italy
Favorite quote:
“It’s not about finding the right partner, it’s about BEING the right partner.” ~ David Glass
Q9. Tell more about how someone can find a perfect match?
Ahhh, the million-dollar question! Is there such thing as a “perfect person” out there for everyone? In my expert opinion, I believe there is a person for each stage in life: one to date before marriage, one to raise a family with, and then, your forever person. If that’s all the same person- excellent, if not, that’s okay, too. People put way too much pressure on themselves and set their expectations too high! Choose a person and love them- see where life takes you and enjoy being in love. Love isn’t “perfect”; people aren’t “perfect.” It’s about accepting the perfectly imperfect together.
Q10. What advice would you give to someone looking to starting a podcast?
Do it!! I love podcasting! It is truly the best part of my job. It brings me the most joy and lets me connect with my audience on the most far-reaching scope. Don’t wait, don’t overthink it- jump and fly! Get a rocking title, a uber-specific niche, and a good quality microphone…the rest will work itself out. I’ll never forget my first episode. I was SO nervous and had planned and practiced for a week. My guest was fantastic and so pumped to be my opening episode- we finished recording, and I realized I had forgotten to push RECORD. Shit happens, y’all. He was so understanding (thank goodness!), and we did it from the top, but I’ll tell you, I never forgot to push the record button again! Never. Ever.
