MY INTERVIEW WITH STEPHANIE WELLS
Q1. What did you want to be growing up?
Oh man, what didn’t I want to be! Once I learned I couldn’t actually be Whitney Houston, I think the one thing I most wanted to be was an Actress. I’m actually very shy, but I never felt that way when I performed. It was like I could feel my presence grow and then shrink right back down when I walked off stage. My mother was very supportive of my dreams, but wanted me to be practical. To appease her I went to college for 1 year and had begun packing my bags for Los Angeles when I found out I was pregnant. She offered to raise my baby while I pursued acting.
Q2. Tell us all about your love for photography and what is your favorite part of being behind the camera?
I always enjoyed taking picture of my friends, casually. In college, I tried to take a photography class but didn’t have either the right camera or prerequisites. So it was just something that was in the back ground for me. I knew nothing about it other than I was enamored with images. I have a photographic memory so creating images for others seemed to be the most amazing art. With the genre of photography that I shoot, I find myself in a unique position. Women have weird relationships with their bodies, either they hate them and try to show as little as possible or they love their bodies and they are ashamed to admit that, few women hang out in the middle, but the majority of my clients hang out in the extremes; regardless of their relationship with their body, they have to be vulnerable with me. They quite literally hand me their insecurities and fears and hope that I can return something they find beautiful to them. The trust that they must have with me is incredible and the fact that we have women and couples coming from around the world to have this experience never ceases to amaze me
Q3. What do you think are the three biggest mistakes women make when it comes to achieving their goals?
- You don’t know what you don’t know. You have to get your feet wet, your hands dirty and really put in the time. No matter how instant something can appear to the outside world, there is always much more effort than we see.
- Thinking you can do everything all the time. We all have an area where we are our most valuable, focus on that and get help where you can.
- Not appreciating little victories. If you only focus on the big goals, you may be very disappointed and feel like you will never really achieve; but if you can get excited over your inbox being at 0 or finishing ahead of a deadline. Then getting to your big goal will seem much more attainable.
Q4. What is one of your most treasured accomplishments?
After my second child was diagnosed with Autism, I went back to school. I have 2 college degrees. Getting pregnant at 19 had all the trappings of being a statistic, but the harder life got, the harder I worked.
Q5. What is your favorite quote?
“Only the shallow know themselves” -oscar wilde
Q6. Tell us a little synopsis of your career?
I’m “The Ass Whisperer” Haha
Just over here helping women appreciate their bums for the past 12+ years.
Q7. Your photo shoots are sooo sexy and delicious, do you have a secret to your work and what motivates you?
I really want to help improve women’s relationships with their bodies, but not from the self love/acceptance angle. I am not naive enough to think that I can undue 30 years of anyones self loathing and convince them that their stretch marks and cellulite are cute. I do know that none of us know how we look as we move through this world and share ourselves with our loved ones. I just want to give my women the ability to shush the girl brain when insecurities take over. I’ve never met a woman who didn’t have some qualm with some part of her body and unfortunately it can really inhibit a woman’s sex life. If I am able to show her body to her the way her lover sees her, then I want to give that to as many women as possible.
Q8. Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming successful? To what do you most attribute your success?
I don’t think I am there quite yet.
For me, It’s the fact that I get to be creative everyday and work with amazing women. Over the years, I’ve been able to feed my kids from something many people think of as just a hobby. I just keep plugging away. I love my craft, my clients and any success I have it’s just another tiny victory!
Q9. As a Confident Beautiful women wearing many hats, how do you handle workload stress?
Help! I have an awesome team that have always believed in me, which is what I wanted. They all work with me every single day now and make it possible for me to do mindless things every once in a while. I look back on previous years and I wonder how I ever made it without them. The ability to delegate or cry out for help has been a tremendous game changer for me.
Q10. If you could talk to one woman from history, who would it be and why?
My Mama! I only had her on this earth with me for 27 years. As much as I know about her, there is still so much that I don’t.
Q11. Please share with our tribe of Women, one piece of advice you have received, which has helped you throughout your journey & continues to help you?
You could follow someones exact plan, exact steps and copy every little thing they have done, but the results will still be different because of YOU.
